“You’re single because you love and respect yourself enough to not give yourself away so easily.” –Tyrese Gibson

You may remember Tyrese from his modelling days, his music or his role in the Fast and Furious movies, but these days he has taken on a new title, Relationship Guru.
Tyrese isn’t afraid to speak about how important it is to love oneself and never “settle” for anything you don’t deserve. Since 2009, he’s been a happily single man who has tackled a nasty divorce and continues to deal with an ongoing child custody battle about his 7-year-old daughter, Shayla. In fact, his most recent album Black Rose reveals a vulnerable side of him confessing certain things he has done during his marriage to Norma Mitchell.
If you follow him on Facebook, he often posts videos not just about being single, but about living a positive life and his approach to love and relationships. He talks about how he is his own person and doesn’t allow the subtle social stigma of being “single” stop him from achieving great things.
In fact, in one video post, titled Self Love is the Cure to Self Hate, Tyrese’s message is loud and clear on his positive approach: "The day that you allow the opinions of the outside world to dictate the way you feel about yourself, is the beginning of the end of you living a blessed and self-loving secure life.”
Tyrese has helped single people with dating advice through two books he’s written and now a talk show “It’s Not You, It’s Men” where he co-hosts with Rev Run on OWN. The two books he’s written; How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Manology: Secrets of Your Man’s Mind Revealed (co-authored with Rev Run) are self-help and dating/relationship advice books with topics such as why men cheat, sex, how to keep a healthy relationship and more.
In his first book, How to Get Out of Your Own Way, he talks about who he was as a human being and how he’s evolved into a new man. His book is meant to be a guide to helping yourself while using his experiences as a learning tool.  He stresses in his book that “life becomes infinitely richer when one takes the time to know him or herself and understand the true meaning of peace and fulfilment. “
In his second book with Rev Run, they write about relationships from a man’s point of view. Rev Run talks about marriage while Tyrese talks about dating. It’s a book geared toward giving women advice on how to weed out the “cheaters, manipulators and pimps” from the good men out there. They also say it’s a good read for men who are in transition from being married to single and dating again.
Oprah’s TV network, OWN, created a show It’s Not You, It’s Men, with Tyrese and Rev Run as co-hosts. The show brings viewers fresh insights on sex, love and relationships from Tyrese who’s the bachelor and single father and Rev Run who’s happily married with six children. Both men have very different points of view and it shows.
Though Tyrese talks about how proud he is to be single, like most of us are, he still wants to find the woman of his dreams someday and hopes to give advice to people who can find their significant others by not compromising who they are and what they truly deserve.
As always the best discussions are happening over in the community boards so members of The Singles Sisterhood we'll meet you over in there.
